Allegations of Preferential Treatment at Southern Hospital ER Spark Investigation

Authorities are investigating claims that politicians and their families received preferential access at Warsaw’s Southern Hospital Emergency Department, while also probing irregularities regarding physician work schedules and staff credentials.

Allegations of Preferential ER Access

Warsaw’s Southern Hospital has become the subject of intense scrutiny following media reports alleging that individuals with political ties, including Civic Coalition (KO) members, were granted priority care at its Emergency Department. Reports suggest these individuals were treated faster than other patients and were provided with private waiting areas.

The hospital maintains that patient information is protected by medical confidentiality, yet it has not directly refuted the specific claims regarding the existence of an informal, preferential treatment path that circumvented standard medical triage protocols.

Prosecutorial and Institutional Oversight

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw has initiated an ex-officio investigation into the potential creation of a non-medical triage system, which may have endangered public health. Prosecutors are also examining allegations of document falsification regarding physician work hours intended to secure financial gain.

In response to these developments, the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, has ordered an urgent audit of the facility. Additionally, the National Health Fund (NFZ) and the Supreme Medical Council have launched investigations to verify staffing levels, professional credentials, and the overall integrity of the hospital’s operational procedures.

Concerns Regarding Physician Work Schedules

Scrutiny has also focused on Dawid Kacprzyk, a doctor and local district councilor who served as the hospital’s ER coordinator. Questions have been raised regarding the feasibility of his documented work hours, which reportedly averaged 331 hours per month in 2025.

Media reports indicated potential overlaps between the doctor’s hospital shifts and his political or media appearances. Following the emergence of these irregularities, the hospital terminated its contracts with Kacprzyk, who has also resigned from his membership in the Civic Coalition.
