“Beat It, You Brat”: Giertych Demands Sanctions Against PiS Leader

Following a heated parliamentary exchange regarding Justice Fund irregularities and hospital funding, Civic Coalition MP Roman Giertych has formally requested that the Sejm Ethics Committee penalize Law and Justice (PiS) chairman Jarosław Kaczyński.

A Sejm Confrontation Over Justice Fund Allegations

During Friday’s parliamentary session, the debate centered on high salaries at the Southern Hospital. Civic Coalition (KO) MP Roman Giertych transitioned the discussion toward the Justice Fund and alleged irregularities that occurred under the former PiS administration.

Giertych challenged Kaczyński directly, citing recordings from former Justice Fund official Tomasz Mraz, which alleged that 18 million PLN from the fund was directed to an Otwock hospital to treat Kaczyński’s knee. Kaczyński remained seated, but parliamentary cameras recorded him telling Giertych: “spieprzaj, gówniarzu” (beat it, you brat).

Formal Complaints Filed

In response to the insult, Giertych announced on X that he had filed a motion with the Ethics Committee to punish Kaczyński for the vulgar language used on the chamber floor. He is also requesting that the Sejm Presidium strip the PiS leader of half his parliamentary salary for three months.

Giertych maintained that such behavior is unacceptable in the legislature. He further noted that the Sejm Presidium should also consider sanctions against PiS MP Przemysław Czarnek for his conduct during the same session.

Controversial Historical Allegations

Giertych’s accusations also invoked past controversies, including claims regarding the hospital care of former Sejm Speaker Elżbieta Witek’s husband and the 2020 procurement of medical masks by the Ministry of Health under Łukasz Szumowski. Witek has previously denied using her political position for personal benefit.

Regarding the face masks purchased in 2020, the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office terminated its investigation in February 2024. The prosecutor concluded that the sellers had exercised due diligence and that the masks met European standards, contradicting earlier media reports alleging the purchase of substandard equipment at inflated prices.
