Court Decision and Risk of Flight
A Wrocław court decided on Tuesday to place an 18-year-old Ukrainian citizen under temporary arrest for three months. The suspect is accused of attempting to murder a 30-year-old woman in a brutal knife attack on the stairwell of an apartment building in the Muchobór estate.
Prosecutor Mateusz Kuciński from the Wrocław-Fabryczna District Prosecutor’s office stated that the court granted the prosecution’s motion for a three-month detention, noting the high risk of flight due to the suspect lacking a permanent residence.
Attempted Murder Charges and Suspect’s Stance
The 18-year-old was formally charged with attempted murder after inflicting multiple stab wounds to the victim’s neck and chest. He pleaded not guilty and refused to provide an explanation, according to District Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Jakub Dłubacz.
The victim and the alleged perpetrator did not know each other. The suspect faces up to life imprisonment for the offense.
Details of the Attack in Muchobór
The incident occurred on Saturday around 9:00 PM on Gagarina Street. Police spokesperson Aleksandra Freus reported that the 30-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital in life-threatening condition, though she was discharged from the hospital on Monday.
Police detained the attacker immediately following the incident at the residential building’s stairwell.
Official Statement from the Ukrainian Consulate
The Consulate General of Ukraine in Wrocław issued a statement expressing profound regret over the incident resulting in severe injuries to a Polish citizen and the arrest of a Ukrainian national.
The consulate strongly condemned all forms of violence and stated that anyone who commits a crime must be held accountable under Polish law. (PAP)
