CBA Raids Warsaw City Hall Over Southern Hospital Scandal

Anti-corruption agents are seizing documents at Warsaw City Hall, the Ursus District Office, and the Southern Hospital as part of a double investigation into alleged fraud and abuse of power.

CBA Investigation Underway

On Thursday, Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister-coordinator of special services, confirmed that CBA agents began conducting operations at the direction of the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office. Officers are securing documentation at the Warsaw City Office, the Ursus District Office, and the Southern Hospital.

Dobrzyński stated that the seized materials will be thoroughly analyzed and verified, noting that this is the only information available at this stage of the investigation.

Double Probe Into Hospital Irregularities

Two separate investigations are currently underway regarding the Southern Hospital. The first concerns fraud involving more than half a million zlotys, while the second focuses on the abuse of power by a public official, specifically regarding violations of triage procedures in the Emergency Department.

The probe follows a June 15 report alleging that Dawid Kacprzyk, an Emergency Department coordinator and local Ursus councilor, earned 1.6 million zlotys in medical facilities last year. Media reports also claimed that Civic Coalition politicians received priority treatment at the facility. Kacprzyk has since been dismissed and resigned his council seat.

Political Fallout and Management Changes

The hospital’s management board and supervisory board have been dismissed. Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski announced a new policy prohibiting political party members from serving on the boards of municipal companies, including those in the medical sector.

Witness Testimony and Ongoing Inquiries

Last week, former surgery chief Dr. Emil Jędrzejewski testified as a witness. Prosecutor Piotr A. Skiba, spokesperson for the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office, noted that this testimony necessitated the seizure of further medical and organizational records, with the witness list currently expanding to include more medical staff.

In a previous interview, Dr. Jędrzejewski alleged procedural medical failures at the emergency unit and claimed that medical errors led to complications and potential patient deaths. These allegations remain unconfirmed by current investigative findings.
