Death of a Worker at Construction Site Near Krakow

A 64-year-old Ukrainian national died on Wednesday morning, July 8, at a construction site in the village of Mordarka, with authorities ruling out a workplace accident.

Fatal Incident in Mordarka

The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 8, around 5:00 AM in the village of Mordarka, located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. Coworkers discovered the 64-year-old man and alerted emergency services; despite a rescue attempt, the man was pronounced dead.

Police officers conducted an on-site inspection and interviewed witnesses. The investigation, overseen by the prosecutor’s office, will examine the man’s prior health condition and the exact circumstances of his passing. The victim’s family and the Ukrainian consulate have been notified.

Podłęże-Piekiełko Railway Project

The construction of the Podłęże-Piekiełko railway line aims to reduce travel time from central Krakow to Zakopane to 90–100 minutes. The project is designed to accommodate both long-distance and tourist traffic.

A core objective of the project is to establish an alternative north-south rail corridor through Europe for freight transport. The investment is also intended to expand bulk cargo capacity between the Visegrád Group countries.
