Drunk Driver Smashes Six Vehicles and Flees Scene in Warsaw

A heavily intoxicated 51-year-old woman in Warsaw’s Targówek district crashed her Lancia into six parked vehicles and a motorcycle before fleeing to her apartment on the night between Saturday and Sunday.

Abandoned Lancia Found on Poborzańska Street

In the night from Saturday to Sunday in the Targówek area, a female Lancia driver damaged several parked cars and a motorcycle before abandoning her vehicle and fleeing the scene. Police used a tracking dog to trace her to her apartment and arrest her.

At 1:30 on Saturday, Targówek police received a report about an abandoned Lancia on Poborzańska Street. The vehicle was damaged and lacked a front wheel. It was discovered that the driver had damaged six cars parked on Łabiszyńska Street and a motorcycle before fleeing, prompting a search using a tracking dog.

Simultaneously, the capital’s Traffic Department crew conducted an inspection of the abandoned Lancia at the scene before securing it in a tow yard.

Police Trace Suspect to Rembielińska Street Apartment

Law enforcement quickly reached an apartment located on Rembielińska Street where the sought-after woman was hiding. An additional crew from the North Praga police headquarters arrived as well. The 51-year-old refused to open the door, but after being informed about a fire brigade intervention, she let the officers inside.

Officers immediately smelled alcohol on the woman and tested her with a breathalyzer. It showed that the 51-year-old had nearly one promil of alcohol in her exhaled air. The woman explained that she wanted to drive home after a party at a female friend’s house. Police detained her.

Blood Tests Confirm High Blood Alcohol Concentration

Subsequent breathalyzer tests performed by officers at the Białołęka police station showed over two promils of alcohol in the 51-year-old’s system. Officers transported her to a hospital, where blood was drawn to test for the presence of intoxicants. The woman sobered up in the police detention facility.

The next day, police interrogated the 51-year-old and presented her with a charge of driving a vehicle while intoxicated. She faces up to 3 years in prison for this crime, and an additional penalty for causing a traffic collision, the amount of which will be decided by a court.
