Drunk Driver With Two Lifetime Bans Flips Car and Flees Into Fields

A 33-year-old man from the Baboszewo commune faces five years in prison after crashing his car while intoxicated and violating two lifetime court-ordered driving bans last Thursday.

The Crash and Attempted Escape

On Thursday, June 25, around 6:30 p.m., Płońsk police were called to Cieszkowo Stare in the Baboszewo municipality regarding a rolled-over Seat. Witnesses reported that the driver had fled the scene into nearby cornfields immediately after the crash.

Officers arrived to find the car on its roof. The driver was apprehended minutes later as he emerged from the crops with a bloodied face and hand injuries. He was identified by a witness who had seen him operating the vehicle moments before the accident.

Severe Intoxication and Criminal Record

The 33-year-old suspect displayed clear signs of intoxication, including poor balance and a strong smell of alcohol. A breathalyzer test confirmed his blood alcohol level was over 2.8 per mille.

Background checks revealed that the man was subject to two lifetime court-ordered bans on driving any mechanical vehicles. The suspect admitted to ownership of the vehicle and explained he had been driving to Baboszewo to meet a friend.

Legal Consequences and Ongoing Investigation

After being cleared for release by hospital staff, the man was placed in a police cell. Upon sobering up, he was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and violating court-ordered driving prohibitions.

The suspect now faces up to five years in prison and mandatory high financial contributions to the Fund for Assistance to Victims and Post-Penitentiary Assistance. A prosecutor has imposed police supervision and a strict order against operating any mechanical vehicles.
