The Parliamentary Confrontation
During Friday’s parliamentary session, Civic Coalition MP Roman Giertych addressed controversies surrounding the Southern Hospital and past allegations involving the Justice Fund during the PiS administration. Giertych questioned the funding of medical care for Kaczyński, specifically referencing 18 million PLN allocated to a hospital in Otwock.
While KaczyÅ„ski remained in his seat, cameras recorded him telling Giertych to “f*** off, you brat.” In response, PiS MP PrzemysÅ‚aw Czarnek shouted at Giertych, demanding he “return the money.”
Giertych’s Formal Complaint
Giertych announced on X that he is filing a motion with the Parliamentary Ethics Committee to sanction Kaczyński for his outbursts. He also requested that the Sejm Presidium strip the PiS leader of half his salary for three months, arguing that profanity has no place in the legislature.
Allegations and Historical Context
Giertych’s accusations trace back to testimonies from Tomasz Mraz, a former Justice Fund department director, who alleged that funding was diverted for political purposes, including the surgery of the PiS leader. The debate also touched upon controversial medical equipment purchases and the long-term ICU stay of the husband of former Sejm Speaker Elżbieta Witek.
The discussion additionally referenced the 2020 procurement of face masks, which faced scrutiny regarding price and quality. While media reports initially raised concerns, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw dismissed the investigation in February 2024, concluding that the transaction was conducted with due diligence and the masks met European standards.
