A 22-year-old French citizen was apprehended in the Warsaw metro system on June 23 after damaging ventilation infrastructure, prompting a partial shutdown of the M1 line and a military-led investigation.

Security Breach and Service Disruption
On the morning of June 23, alarm systems detected an unauthorized person inside the Warsaw metro tunnels. Consequently, M1 line operations were restricted to the MÅ‚ociny-Politechnika section, resulting in the temporary closure of 10 stations.
Police apprehended the 22-year-old French national at the Służew metro station. The individual possessed no identification, was sober, and carried no dangerous items at the time of arrest.
Damage to Infrastructure
Inspections of the metro line revealed that the suspect had damaged a ventilation system unit located near the Służew station. Following the intrusion, police conducted pyrotechnic sweeps at the Służew and Wilanowska stations to ensure no hazardous items remained in the tunnels.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The suspect has refused to answer questions or explain his motive for breaching technical infrastructure security. The investigation, initially handled by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw-Mokotów, has been transferred to the 8th Military Department of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw.
The 22-year-old has been placed in temporary detention for three months. He faces charges related to the sabotage of critical infrastructure, which carries a potential sentence of up to eight years in prison.
