German Interior Minister Admits Foreign Powers Could Be Behind Leipzig Airport Drone Incident

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that an explosives-laden drone incident at Leipzig Airport represents a new quality of hybrid warfare threat, with foreign powers potentially involved.

New Quality of Hybrid Warfare Threat

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said on Wednesday that the incident involving an explosives-laden drone at the Leipzig airport constitutes a “new quality of threat” in hybrid warfare. Due to the professional construction of the drone, he did not rule out the participation of “foreign powers.”

We are dealing here with a “hybrid assassination scenario,” Dobrindt said in an interview with German public television ARD. For the first time, a drone with explosive material was located on the airport grounds. We must be aware of the threat, and politicians must respond to it, added the head of the German Ministry of Interior.

Investigation Into Professional Sabotage

When asked if one could speak of a “political motive,” Dobrindt said he could not confirm any speculations as the investigation is ongoing. He noted that the drone “was not the work of amateurs, but the work of top-class professionals.”

Conclusions can be drawn, but nothing can be proven yet, the German Interior Minister stipulated. He admitted, however, that “foreign powers could have been behind this” and added that the investigation is being conducted in all directions. Professional conduct requires more than just amateur knowledge, which is why the involvement of foreign forces cannot be excluded, he emphasized.

Not every such attack had to be steered from Moscow, but it is known that the war in Ukraine has led to Russia’s hybrid warfare entering a new level, the article states.
