Human Smuggling Attempt Thwarted Near Wyszków; Ukrainian Driver Arrested

Border Guard officers stopped a vehicle near Wyszków on June 26, 2026, intercepting three illegal migrants and a 20-year-old Ukrainian national suspected of facilitating their transit toward the German border.

Interception and Arrest

Officers from the Warsaw-Modlin Border Guard post stopped a Volkswagen following intelligence from Sejny. Inside the vehicle were two individuals claiming to be from Eritrea, one from Ethiopia, and a 20-year-old Ukrainian driver.

Investigations confirmed the Ukrainian driver had collected the migrants near the Polish-Lithuanian border and was transporting them toward Poland’s western frontier.

Legal Proceedings and Deportations

The three migrants admitted to illegally crossing the border in violation of Article 264 § 2 of the Penal Code. The two Eritrean nationals were subsequently returned to Lithuania under a simplified readmission agreement.

The Ethiopian national is currently subject to administrative return proceedings and has been placed in a guarded detention center for foreigners by court order.

Prosecution of Smuggling Charges

The 20-year-old Ukrainian driver was brought before the District Prosecutor’s Office in Wyszków to face charges of aiding and abetting the illegal crossing of the state border.

At the prosecutor’s request, the court has ordered the suspect to be held in temporary custody for a period of three months. This operation underscores ongoing efforts to combat organized human smuggling across Polish borders.
