Sources Allege Critical State of Iran’s Leader
The portal cited two sources close to the administration of President Masoud Pezeshkian. One of the Iran Wire informants stated they would not be surprised if news of his martyrdom is heard soon.
Secret Presidential Meeting in Tehran
Portal interlocutors emphasized that Mojtaba Khamenei has not met with any government member since the February 28 U.S. bombing of the supreme leader’s complex, which killed Ali Khamenei, Mojtaba’s father and the country’s previous leader.
A few days ago, Iran International reported that Pezeshkian was taken to a secret location in Tehran and allowed to spend only a few minutes in a car with tinted windows and dimmed lights in the company of a man introduced as the supreme leader. The president could not even shake Khamenei’s hand and reportedly asked after the meeting whether the voice he heard really belonged to the ayatollah.
President Pezeshkian on Difficult Contacts
In a television speech broadcast on Wednesday, August 5, Pezeshkian admitted that contacts with Khamenei are very difficult. The description of the secret meeting between Pezeshkian and Khamenei cited by Iran International differs significantly from the version publicly presented by the president himself as late as May.
During a May meeting with trade organization representatives, Pezeshkian said he spent two and a half hours with the new leader in a cordial atmosphere. Iran International emphasized that the meeting itself was reportedly a concession forced by Pezeshkian on the supreme leader’s office under the threat of the president resigning from his post.
Mojtaba Khamenei’s Public Absence
Since taking leadership on March 8, Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared in public, made any speeches, or broadcast any recordings of himself, not even audio materials. Only a few letters attributed to Khamenei have been published. The absence has sparked speculation about his health and even doubts about whether Iran’s third supreme leader survived the U.S. bombings.
