Majority of Poles Support Nationwide Nighttime Alcohol Ban

A recent IBRiS poll commissioned by *Rzeczpospolita* reveals that over 54 percent of Poles favor a nationwide ban on late-night alcohol sales, despite significant variations across gender, age, and location.

Public Opinion on National Restrictions

As an increasing number of Polish cities implement localized restrictions on late-night alcohol sales, a survey conducted by IBRiS for *Rzeczpospolita* gauged public support for a uniform national prohibition. The results indicate that 54.9 percent of respondents favor such a measure, while 42.9 percent oppose it.

Of those supporting the ban, 32.6 percent advocate for restrictions between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., 16.9 percent favor an 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. window, and 5.5 percent prefer other timeframes.

Demographic and Political Divides

The poll highlights stark differences in opinion based on gender and location. Only 25 percent of women oppose the ban, compared to 62 percent of men. Residents of cities with over 500,000 inhabitants show higher support, with only 26 percent opposing the ban, whereas opposition rises to 47 percent in smaller towns.

Political leanings and age also impact these views. 36 percent of government supporters oppose the ban, compared to 47 percent of opposition voters. Support is lowest among those aged 18–29 and 40–49, while the highest level of approval is found in the 50–59 age group.

Study Methodology

The IBRiS survey was conducted on a representative national sample of 1,068 people between June 12 and June 13 of this year.
