The Incident in Mierzawa
The tragedy occurred on Friday, June 19, around 4:00 PM in Mierzawa, 艢wi臋tokrzyskie Voivodeship. According to police findings, a 49-year-old resident quarreled with his wife; when she left the home, the man began searching for her, heading to his in-laws’ residence under the assumption that she had sought refuge there.
Victims Attacked
The assailant attacked his in-laws, inflicting multiple wounds. Despite an immediate emergency response, the 80-year-old man could not be saved. Sergeant Sylwia Faryna of the J臋drzej贸w County Police confirmed that the 76-year-old woman underwent surgery overnight and remains in critical condition.
Suspect Identified as Ex-Officer
The suspect, who fled the scene, is a former police officer who left the force in February 2023. 艢wi臋tokrzyskie police stated on X that he had been assigned to the prevention unit and possesses no specialized tactical training or a firearms permit.
Massive Manhunt Launched
A manhunt is currently underway in the J臋drzej贸w district and surrounding areas, with authorities urging residents to exercise extreme caution. The Provincial Police Commander in Kielce has initiated a region-wide operation involving nearly 300 officers, supported by ATVs, tracking dogs, drones, and a police helicopter.
Arrest Warrant and Appeal
The District Prosecutor’s Office in J臋drzej贸w has issued an arrest warrant for Dariusz R贸wnicki, who is charged with murder and attempted murder. The suspect is described as being 180 cm tall with short hair and a receding hairline; he was last seen wearing a light blue t-shirt, dark sweatpants, and sneakers, fleeing the scene on a yellow-and-black electric scooter. The J臋drzej贸w District Court has ordered his temporary detention. Police have established a dedicated line at 516 385 635 for tips and remind the public that harboring a fugitive is a criminal offense punishable by up to five years in prison.
