Murder in Mierzawa: Former Officer Kills Father-in-Law During Domestic Dispute

Following a domestic altercation last Friday in Mierzawa, a 49-year-old former police officer murdered his 80-year-old father-in-law and wounded his mother-in-law after pursuing his wife to her parents’ home.

The Sequence of the Attack

The incident in Mierzawa, Jędrzejów County, followed a history of marital conflict. After his wife, Joanna R., fled to her parents’ house, the suspect broke in by shattering a window. When the 80-year-old father attempted to intervene, he was stabbed to death, while the mother-in-law was also attacked. The perpetrator fled the scene on a scooter while his wife hid in nearby vegetation.

Arrest and Legal Charges

Local residents spotted the suspect on Monday, June 22, leading to a swift police operation. The 49-year-old was found exhausted and unarmed, surrendering without resistance. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Jędrzejów has charged him with the murder of the 80-year-old man and the attempted murder of the 76-year-old woman; he faces a potential life sentence.
