PiS Proposes Independent Commission to Investigate Southern Hospital Irregularities

The Law and Justice party (PiS) has drafted legislation to establish a non-political commission aimed at investigating alleged management irregularities at the Southern Hospital in Warsaw and other healthcare facilities across the region.

A Unique Supervisory Mechanism

Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the Law and Justice party, announced that the proposed commission will operate outside the standard political framework, claiming it differs from any existing oversight body in the Polish political system.

The draft legislation, already prepared by the party, seeks to address what Kaczyński describes as a broader systemic issue within the healthcare sector, with the Southern Hospital serving as a primary case study.

Structure and Scope of the Commission

The commission is intended to be apolitical, with members selected by the Sejm based on nominations from professional medical organizations, supplemented by three legal experts.

Kaczyński clarified that the commission would hold significant authority and operate independently of existing state organs, tasked with auditing the oversight of various healthcare units throughout the Masovian Voivodeship.
