Domestic Tourism Becomes the Primary Choice
Domestic leisure travel has evolved from an alternative to international vacations into the first choice for many Poles. According to an opinion poll commissioned by OLX, nearly 90% of respondents took a domestic trip in the last 12 months, compared to 54% who traveled abroad.
The survey dispels the myth of spontaneous travel, as most respondents plan their trips one to three months in advance, whether for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation.
Travel Frequency and Motivation
Weekend trips are a regular habit for many, with 43% of respondents taking such breaks three to four times a year. Longer stays are less frequent, with the majority opting for one or two such trips annually.
Regardless of duration, the primary objective is rest and relaxation rather than sightseeing or cultural activities. While short trips serve as a quick escape from daily life, longer vacations are used to discover new locations and reconnect with nature.
Budgeting and Accommodation Preferences
Budget planning is central to the travel experience, with accommodation costs being a priority. For weekend trips, 74% of respondents allocate up to 400 PLN per person per night. Travelers tend to be more cost-conscious during longer stays, often optimizing expenses to maintain a reasonable overall budget.
While hotels remain the most popular choice, there is a growing trend toward diversified options. Over one-third of travelers now prefer cabins, private rooms, or apartments, with agritourism gaining significant traction for longer vacations.
Future Growth in Domestic Tourism
Kamil Szabłowski, PR & Communication Manager at OLX, notes that the rising popularity of domestic tourism will drive the development of Poland’s accommodation sector. As travel expectations become more varied, property owners must focus on individual traveler needs to remain competitive.
