Radzymin Bans Garden Watering Amidst Growing Housing Development Criticism

Radzymin Mayor Krzysztof Chaciński has issued an emergency order banning the use of municipal water for lawns, gardens, and pools from June 25 to June 30, 2026, due to critical system pressure drops.

Emergency Restrictions on Water Use

Following a sharp rise in water consumption and pressure drops in the municipal network, an emergency order was signed on June 25, 2026. The mandate prohibits using municipal water for non-essential purposes, including watering gardens and filling pools, to ensure supply for basic household needs during the current drought.

The municipal government, led by Mayor Krzysztof Chaciński, has warned that violations of the order may result in fines under the Code of Petty Offenses. The ban remains in effect through June 30, 2026, with the local water utility company overseeing enforcement.

Residents Question Urban Expansion

The restrictions have sparked public debate, with many residents pointing to the rapid, unchecked approval of new housing estates as the primary cause of the shortage. Critics argue it is unacceptable to limit water access for existing residents while the municipality continues to issue building permits for new developments.

Internal municipal documents acknowledge that high demand stems not only from a lack of rainfall but also from a significant increase in the number of network users. The municipality previously noted that maintaining water pressure is also critical for fire safety.

Infrastructure and Capacity Challenges

Data shows that the water treatment plant on Batalionów Chłopskich street has a daily capacity of 5,000 cubic meters. By May 2026, usage hit 4,900 cubic meters per day, putting the system near its absolute limit during the peak summer months.

To address the growing demand, the municipality plans to construct a second treatment plant on Rycerska street by the first quarter of 2028. This facility is expected to double the available supply of treated water for the region.

Emergency Water Access

To support the public, the municipality has deployed water tankers to the Victoria and Reymonta housing estates. These units are available daily during late afternoon and evening hours.

Additionally, 24-hour water intake points remain operational across the city, as well as in the nearby villages of Ciemne and Cegielnia. The local government has pledged to issue further updates as the situation in the water supply network develops.
