Rail Traffic Halted Between Poznań and Berlin Following Major Line Failure

A significant infrastructure failure occurred on Friday, June 19, halting train traffic between Nowy Tomyśl and Opalenica after approximately one kilometer of the overhead power supply network was severely damaged.

Infrastructure Failure Disrupts Cross-Border Rail

The incident occurred on Friday, June 19, shortly after 2:00 PM. Because the second track on the route between Nowy Tomyśl and Opalenica is currently undergoing modernization, the breakdown has resulted in a complete suspension of train traffic in the affected sector.

Marta Pabiańska, a representative of the PKP PLK press team, confirmed to PAP that approximately one kilometer of the overhead contact line sustained damage. Repair efforts are expected to continue until Monday morning, leading to substantial disruptions in rail operations.

Rerouting and Extended Travel Times

PKP Intercity announced overnight that trains traveling between Warsaw/Poznań and Berlin, as well as those between Gdynia and Berlin, will be diverted via Szczecin. This detour will add approximately four hours to travel times, though passengers will not be required to change trains.

Replacement Bus Service Implementation

Travel between Poznań and Zielona Góra will be handled by replacement bus services for portions of the route, increasing total journey times by roughly one hour. PKP PLK advises passengers to monitor the passenger portal for schedule updates and to pay close attention to announcements at stations.
