Security Operation Near Poznań After Driver Finds Suspicious Cables

Authorities launched a major security operation at a Swarzędz petrol station on Wednesday, July 15, after a driver discovered unusual wiring under his vehicle, triggering evacuations and transport disruptions.

Initial Discovery and Police Response

On Wednesday, July 15, around 3:00 PM, emergency services responded to a petrol station at the intersection of Poznańska and Kirkora streets in Swarzędz. A driver refueling his car noticed strange-looking cables beneath the vehicle and alerted the police.

Andrzej Borowiak, spokesperson for the Poznań Provincial Police, stated that the driver sought assistance out of concern, leading to an immediate police investigation at the site.

Investigation of the Electrical Device

By 8:00 PM, police confirmed no explosives were found in the vehicle. Officers did, however, secure an electrical device that was not a standard component of the car. The unit’s non-standard installation and the vehicle’s location at a petrol station justified a wide-scale security operation, including evacuations and the closure of a nearby railway line.

The vehicle, owned by a Polish private citizen, has been transported to a laboratory for further forensic analysis. Officials are currently investigating who installed the device and their intent.

Security Threats and Local Disruptions

Unofficial reports from Radio Poznań indicate that a detonator was found under the vehicle. The Tygodnik Swarzędzki newspaper reported that the driver had previously received threats, which made the presence of the exposed cables particularly alarming to him.

The security operation forced the evacuation of the petrol station, a McDonald’s restaurant, a garden center, and a car dealership. National Road 92 was blocked in both directions, and train traffic on the Poznań Główny to Warszawa Centralna line was suspended due to its proximity to the station.
