Senator Borowski Labels Medical Chamber President’s Stance on Salary Transparency “Arrogant”

Following reports of a physician earning 1.6 million PLN annually, Senator Marek Borowski criticized the head of the Supreme Medical Chamber for his dismissive response to calls for wage transparency.

The 1.6 Million PLN Controversy

Senator Marek Borowski appeared on TVP Info on June 29 to discuss the case of Dawid Kacprzyk. Reports indicate that Kacprzyk, who served as a coordinator at the Warsaw Southern Hospital, earned approximately 1.6 million PLN last year.

Borowski acknowledged that while some specialists deserve high compensation, the systemic issues suggested by a rate of 400 PLN per hour warrant scrutiny. He emphasized that the current system is clearly flawed.

Standoff Between Government and Medical Professionals

In response to public outcry, proposals have emerged to cap medical salaries. Łukasz Jankowski, President of the Supreme Medical Chamber, warns that such limits without adjusting procedure valuations will lead to regional healthcare collapse and longer waiting lists.

Jankowski took to a private Facebook group to assert that no government has ever successfully defeated the medical profession. He encouraged his colleagues to stand firm, stating that physicians, not politicians, are the ones responsible for treating patients.

Clash Over Transparency

Borowski dismissed Jankowski’s confrontational tone as arrogant. He stated that while the Medical Chamber is welcome to present arguments regarding the potential negative impact of pay caps, the current opposition appears driven by a desire to keep physician salaries private.

The Senator concluded that while a proposed law on medical wages may not immediately resolve the systemic crisis, it would provide the necessary data to properly diagnose the sector’s failings.
