Meteorological Alert in Jelenia G贸ra
Violent storms are sweeping through southern Poland, with Jelenia G贸ra suffering significant impact. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued third-degree warnings, forecasting intense rainfall between 35 mm and 80 mm, alongside wind gusts reaching 70 km/h and localized hail.
Hospital Flooding and Emergency Response
The Jelenia G贸ra Provincial Hospital struggled as water breached the facility through ventilation systems and windows. Deputy director Marcin Gniot described the deluge as an unprecedented “wall of rain” that overwhelmed the storm drainage system.
Several units, including the maternity ward, were flooded, leaving patients terrified as water levels rose in the rooms. Firefighters and hospital staff intervened to pump out the water, and no injuries were reported among those inside.
Infrastructure Damage and Evacuations
The Lower Silesian Voivodeship Office reported 336 emergency calls by 16:30, with the Karkonosze district and Jelenia G贸ra accounting for 227 of these incidents. Damage includes flooded cellars, submerged roads, and downed trees.
Storms caused structural damage to roofs in Wojan贸w and Jelenia G贸ra, where 120 people were evacuated from a production and storage facility. Authorities have also preemptively evacuated scout camps across multiple districts and urge citizens to remain cautious as weather warnings persist through the night.
