Ten Warsaw Metro Stations Closed After Unauthorized Person Enters Tunnels

Warsaw Metro suspended M1 line traffic on Wednesday morning after security systems detected an intruder in the tunnels, who was subsequently apprehended by police at the Służew station.

Intruder Apprehended by Police

Warsaw Public Transport confirmed traffic disruptions on the M1 metro line early Wednesday. Metro spokesperson Anna Bartoń stated that alarm systems alerted staff to an unauthorized person in the tunnels, leading to the suspect’s detention at Służew station.

The detained man is a foreign national who carries no identification and speaks English and French. Police are currently working to establish his identity.

Security Inspections Ongoing

Police and Metro staff are conducting thorough safety checks, including the use of a police dog, to ensure no suspicious items were left behind. Metro officials are evaluating whether it is safe to resume passenger service.

Alternative Transit Measures

To mitigate the disruption, authorities have launched a replacement bus service, ZM1, operating between Metro Politechnika and Osiedle Kabaty. Additionally, the ZM2 tram line has been activated, running from Metro Wilanowska to Plac Narutowicza.
