Trzaskowski Appoints New Deputy Mayors After Resignations

Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski has appointed Magdalena Młochowska and Izabela Marcewicz-Jendrysik as new deputy mayors following the resignations of his previous deputies amid controversies at the Southern Hospital.

New Appointments to the City Administration

Magdalena Młochowska, who has worked in the city hall since 2016, will oversee environmental protection, climate, waste management, greenery, and housing policy. Młochowska previously served as the director of the Housing Policy Bureau and previously worked at the Ministry of Administration and Digitization under Trzaskowski.

Izabela Marcewicz-Jendrysik, an economist and healthcare manager, will be responsible for health policy and social policy. She previously led the Kopernik Medical Care Center and the National Geriatric, Rheumatology, and Rehabilitation Institute, with Trzaskowski highlighting her expertise in managing healthcare systems.

Resignations Following Hospital Scandals

The appointments follow the July 3rd resignation of former deputy mayors Aldona Machnowska-Góra and Renata Kaznowska. Their departure occurred in the wake of media reports uncovering serious irregularities at the Southern Hospital, which included allegations of misconduct involving the facility’s mortuary and administrative practices.

Trzaskowski accepted the resignations, stating that while he does not judge individual guilt, public figures are held to higher expectations and standards. He confirmed that official audits of the hospitals are currently underway to address the findings.

Details of Hospital Irregularities

Investigations by the Zero channel and the Onet portal revealed that the Southern Hospital mortuary was allegedly used as a film set and that the manager promoted his associate’s funeral business while allegedly selling bodies and services illegally. Furthermore, reports surfaced regarding Dawid Kacprzyk, a doctor and local politician, who earned 1.6 million PLN while serving as a coordinator, with allegations of preferential medical treatment for fellow party members.
