Trzaskowski Promises Investigation into Hospital Crisis
Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski addressed the city council regarding serious allegations at the Southern Hospital, vowing a thorough investigation. He emphasized that the situation has caused a breakdown in public trust, which he identified as the foundation of the healthcare system.
The Mayor confirmed he has ordered an audit of all municipal hospital emergency departments and submitted a request to the prosecutor’s office. He declared he would not hesitate to take decisive action against any personnel found to have violated procedures or neglected irregularities.
Preliminary Audit Findings and Management Questions
Presenting preliminary internal audit results, Trzaskowski noted that a former department head submitted a notification to the hospital’s then-president on July 23, 2025. He stated the document lacked necessary signatures and specific information regarding patient deaths.
Trzaskowski questioned why the former official waited months to speak out publicly rather than utilizing formal whistleblower channels. Regarding reports of a private “VIP room” at the emergency department, he clarified that investigations are focused on the unauthorized use of a room belonging to a separate spine surgery center.
Referendum Initiative Disrupts Council Proceedings
The council session was interrupted by chants from the public demanding a referendum and the Mayor’s resignation. Council chairperson Sławomir Potapowicz intervened to call for order so the proceedings could continue.
Prior to the session, the Capital Referendum Operation announced its formal campaign to recall the Mayor and the city council. Initiator Maciej Wilk announced that signature collection will begin in coming weeks, supported by a crowdfunded budget intended to fuel the civic drive for political change.
