Tusk on PiS Internal Conflict: Not One Stone Will Be Left Upon Another

Following the collapse of last-minute talks between Jarosław Kaczyński and Mateusz Morawiecki, Prime Minister Donald Tusk declared that the bitter internal conflict within the PiS party will leave nothing intact.

PiS spokesperson Rafał Bochenek informed on Thursday that party leader Jarosław Kaczyński presented a series of compromise proposals during a conversation with Mateusz Morawiecki. These included freezing, rather than liquidating, the “Rozwój Plus” association until the parliamentary elections, though he added that this proposal was also not accepted.

The afternoon meeting between Kaczyński and Morawiecki took place on the same day that an ultimatum expired, which the party leadership had issued to politicians belonging to external associations under threat of exclusion from the party.

Bochenek noted that Thursday’s talks did not lead to a positive conclusion also because Vice-President Morawiecki did not agree to equal treatment for all MPs in the club, while wanting to reserve special operating conditions for himself within the party. Earlier, immediately after the conversation, he reported that the talks were constructive in nature, although they did not resolve the principal matter, adding that all parliamentarians in their political environment have the same rights and obligations.

PiS Leadership Decision Regarding Associations

Last week, the Law and Justice political committee adopted a resolution stating that every parliamentarian of the group must submit a declaration of non-affiliation with associations conducting political activity within the group, under penalty of exclusion from the party. The ultimatum primarily concerns members of the “Rozwój Plus” association founded by Morawiecki.

Sasin soon reported that his “Po pierwsze Polska” association had ended its operations, while Morawiecki signaled at the time that he wanted to remain in PiS and develop his association.

Piotr Müller, a PiS MEP and member of the “Rozwój Plus” association, referring later to the PiS spokesperson’s wpis, noted that such a declaration was signed by each party member when they joined. He emphasized that the prepared declarations do not concern party membership, so it is not worth misleading public opinion.

The final deadline for PiS parliamentarians to submit their declarations expires at midnight on Thursday, July 23, with Jarosław Kaczyński’s statement scheduled for 12:00 PM on Friday.
