Prime Minister Donald Tusk has demanded a thorough investigation into allegations that Warsaw’s Southern Hospital provided preferential, expedited medical treatment and a private lounge for politicians associated with the Civic Coalition.

Allegations of Preferential Treatment

The news portal Zero.pl reported that the Southern Hospital in Warsaw allegedly operated an unofficial “fast track” for Civic Coalition (KO) politicians and their families. While ordinary patients waited hours, privileged individuals reportedly received examinations within minutes and had access to a private, furnished VIP room.

Examples cited include politicians receiving rapid medical examinations for minor issues like fatigue or knee injuries, and an associate of a high-profile politician reportedly undergoing multiple major diagnostic procedures within a very short timeframe, bypassing standard waiting lists that affect the general public.

Government Accountability and Legal Consequences

Prime Minister Donald Tusk declared that the situation requires a full, public explanation regardless of political affiliation. He demanded that the municipal authorities, who oversee the hospital, provide a precise report on the reported irregularities.

Tusk emphasized that if investigations confirm illegal acts, the matter will be referred to the prosecutor’s office. If only ethical standards were breached, political accountability will follow. He also confirmed that a doctor linked to the scandal has resigned from party membership at his suggestion, noting that such behavior must result in professional and public consequences.

Broader Healthcare System Reform

Linking the hospital incident to systemic issues, Tusk criticized the current state of public healthcare, describing it as “degenerated” and overly focused on maximizing personal earnings for some medical professionals. He pointed to a lack of transparency in contracts and high wage costs as significant obstacles to efficient management.
