New Calculation Rules for Widow’s Pensions
Beginning January 1, 2027, the portion of the second benefit included in the widow’s pension will rise from 15 percent to 25 percent. This adjustment aims to improve the financial situation of those managing a household on a single income following the death of a spouse.
Eligibility and Benefit Amounts
The increase will vary based on individual circumstances, with some seniors receiving up to 400 PLN more per month. The final amount depends on the size of both combined benefits and a statutory payout limit.
Automatic Processing of Claims
Eligible seniors do not need to submit new applications to receive the increase. ZUS will automatically recalculate benefits, and higher payments will be issued starting from the first payout dates following January 1, 2027.
Statutory Payout Limits
A maximum ceiling remains in effect for total benefits, which cannot exceed three times the minimum pension. While most recipients will not be affected, those with higher combined benefits must ensure they do not exceed this threshold to avoid payment reductions.
Frequently Asked Questions
The increased payments are scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027. Whether a recipient qualifies for the full 400 PLN increase depends entirely on the value of their specific benefits and existing legal limits on total payouts.
