Zero Tolerance for Speeders: Nationwide “Speed” Police Operation Starts August 3, 2026

A nationwide police operation targeting speeding and traffic violations begins across Poland on August 3, 2026, bringing increased controls and strict penalties for drivers.

Operation Speed Launches Nationwide

Police officers will show no leniency starting Monday, August 3, 2026, as hundreds of officers take to roads nationwide for the annual “Speed” operation. The crackdown runs until August 9, 2026, with traffic controls significantly increasing in both cities and non-built-up areas.

Officers will utilize handheld speed meters as well as marked and unmarked police cars equipped with video recorders to target motorists ignoring speed limits.

Broader Traffic Checks and Strict Penalties

Beyond speeding, police will closely monitor compliance with traffic regulations, focusing on driver behavior near pedestrian crossings, built-up areas, and conducting sobriety checks. Exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/h in built-up areas, and partially outside them, carries the risk of losing a driving license.

Recent regulatory changes effective since March 3 and March 30, 2026, mean drivers can lose their license for three months for speeding, drunk driving, transporting an unauthorized number of passengers, intentionally causing a car to skid, or riding a motorcycle on one wheel. License suspension for a 50 km/h over-limit violation does not apply on expressways and highways, where officers will issue fines and penalty points instead.
