A driver fleeing police led officers on a 100-kilometer chase before crashing on the S17 highway near Sulejówek, injuring five people and requiring a helicopter rescue.
Police Chase and Crash
A driver fleeing police crashed an Audi at the end of the S17 highway in Sulejówek, Mińsk County. The vehicle breached concrete barriers and overturned into bushes, sending all five occupants to the hospital, with one airlifted by the Polish Air Ambulance Service (LPR).
The incident occurred around 1:20 AM on April 4th. Officers from the Pruszków County Police attempted to stop the Audi using lights and sirens, but the driver fled along Aleje Jerozolimskie, then the Warsaw South Ring Road (S2), and onto the S17 highway towards Lublin. The driver reversed direction near Kołbiel (Otwock County) and continued towards Warsaw.
Extent of the Pursuit
The chase spanned four counties and covered approximately 100 kilometers, with additional patrol units joining the pursuit. At the end of the S17 expressway, the driver failed to slow down, hitting concrete barriers and causing the vehicle to roll over. The engine was ripped from the car and landed several dozen meters from the wreckage.
Injuries and Arrested Individuals
The five occupants of the Audi ranged in age from 19 to 37 years old. All sustained injuries, including fractures and head and chest trauma, and were transported to hospitals. One person was evacuated by LPR helicopter.
Police identified the driver as a 24-year-old Polish citizen who was wanted on an arrest warrant and had three active driving bans, valid until 2028. A blood sample was taken to test for drugs or intoxicating substances.
Additional Suspect Identified
Further investigation revealed that a 22-year-old female passenger in the vehicle was also wanted by authorities.
Pruszków criminal police initiated a pursuit of the Audi in Krosna Wsi after 1:00 AM, after learning it contained a wanted person. The driver ignored signals and continued to flee. Police established roadblocks and deployed sector crews, including WRD and WWP officers. The chase ended in Sulejówek when the driver lost control, hit barriers, and overturned the car.
Police reported on X (formerly Twitter): “Night chase ended in Sulejówek. Two wanted persons in the car. Today after 1:00 AM, Pruszków criminal police initiated a pursuit in Krosna Wsi of an Audi believed to contain a wanted person. The driver did not stop for control despite light and sound signals. Roadblocks were quickly set up on the route, and sector crews were deployed, including WRD and WWP officers. The chase ended in Sulejówek, where the driver lost control of the vehicle, hit barriers, and caused the car to overturn. Five people were traveling in the car. All were taken to hospitals. The driver turned out to be a 24-year-old wanted to serve a prison sentence, also having 3 active driving bans. The 22-year-old passenger was also wanted. A police car was damaged during the operation. No police officers were injured.”
