Approximately 12,000 Polish citizens have already completed voluntary defense training as part of a new national preparedness initiative launched in late 2025.
Mass Training of Polish Citizens: The ‘wGotowości’ System
The “wGotowości” (Ready) system has already encompassed several thousand Polish citizens, offering training designed to prepare them for crisis situations.
The Ministry of National Defense (MON) initiated the program in collaboration with the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, framing it as a modern approach to civic readiness in response to challenges like the war in Ukraine, cyberattacks, and disinformation.
New Standards of Preparedness: Program Details
The “wGotowości” program provides voluntary defense training for all adults, aiming to equip citizens with the skills needed to respond to real-world threats. This initiative marks the first program of its scale in Poland.
Participants can gain practical skills ranging from first aid to cybersecurity protection.
Two Levels of Training: Resilience and Reserves
The program consists of two tracks: “Resilience” and “Reserves.” The “Resilience” track is designed for citizens without prior military training and comprises four one-day, eight-hour modules.
Practical Training Methodology
Training emphasizes practical application and is tailored to participant capabilities. Sessions are led by soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces and security/rescue specialists, fostering a relaxed, pressure-free learning environment without formal exams.
The ‘Reserves’ Track: Expanding Military Skills
The “Reserves” track builds upon existing military training systems, encompassing voluntary military training and reserve force development.
Program Implementation and Registration
The program rollout is accelerating, with approximately 12,000 participants to date, and a new edition ongoing through the end of the year. Training sessions are primarily held on weekends to accommodate working individuals.
Accessing Modules via the mObywatel App
Registration is exclusively through the mObywatel application, a simple process taking only a few minutes. Participants receive details via email.
