Police Detain Anti‑Ukrainian Activist “Nazar” During Traffic Stop

On 31 October, Gdynia police arrested Piotr N., known as “Nazar”, after a traffic stop on Morska Street when he refused to comply with officers and was found in possession of a suspicious vehicle.

Arrest during traffic stop

The detainment occurred on Friday evening, 31 October, on Morska Street in Gdynia. Police pulled Piotr N. over, at that time known as “Nazar”, for a routine breath‑testing check.

During the inspection “Nazar” behaved aggressively, used vulgar language, failed to leave the vehicle and insulted officers. He claimed to be involved in transactions with counterfeit documents, started the car’s engine and refused to shut it down, forcing officers to arrest him.

Test results and charges

A breath test revealed no alcohol in Piotr N.’s exhaled air, but his odd behaviour prompted further scrutiny.

Subsequent drug testing returned positive for several psychoactive substances. A blood sample was taken for further analysis and he was formally arrested.

On Monday, the police announced six charges: spreading anti‑national or religious hate content on social media, propaganda supporting Russian aggression, making punishable threats, violating personal data protection laws, and an uncertain charge for drug‑impaired driving, pending the outcome of the blood tests.

Background on “Nazar”

Piotr N. is well known in the Tri‑City police community. For months he has been swapping Ukrainian flags for Polish ones, attacking a Ukrainian restaurant, kicking a woman for displaying Ukrainian flags, and praising arson.

His social media videos are populated with antisemitic and xenophobic content. The Gazeta Wyborcza reports that “Nazar” claims Ukrainians pose a threat to Poland and that he has lauded members of the party led by Grzegorz Braun, of which he is a sympathiser.

Potential court decision

On Monday, the judge will decide whether “Nazar” will be held in temporary arrest pending further proceedings. The court will also adjudicate the pending charge of driving under influence of drugs.
