Polish MP Faces No-Confidence Vote Amidst Coalition Tensions

Paulina Hennig-Kloska responded by calling Kowalski’s statement an indictment of the previous PiS government, suggesting they hadn’t even reviewed the Confederation’s motion for a vote of no confidence. She accused PiS lawmakers of being misled.

Centrum MPs Criticize Motion as Political Maneuvering

Barbara Oliwiecka of the Centrum parliamentary club described the motion as a politically motivated attempt to test coalition unity and distract from issues within the opposition. Izabela Bodnar, also from Centrum, echoed this sentiment, asserting the motion aims to destabilize the government.

Centrum Calls for Coalition Loyalty

Izabela Bodnar urged members of Polska 2050, Hennig-Kloska’s former party, and other Centrum politicians to demonstrate clear support for the government, warning against aligning with right-wing populists.

Committee Chair Criticizes Debate’s Conduct

During the committee debate, committee chair Urszula Pasławska expressed concern that the proceedings were descending into a “farcical” situation. This followed an extended speaking time by deputy chair Paweł Sałek and subsequent protests from other participants.

Committee Rejects No-Confidence Motion

The committee voted against recommending the no-confidence motion, with 21 votes in favor of the negative opinion and 15 against. The vote took place after a heated debate.

Sejm to Vote on No-Confidence Motion Thursday

The Sejm will vote on the no-confidence motion against Hennig-Kloska on Thursday, April 30th. The motion contains 17 charges, primarily concerning the government’s climate, energy, air quality, and forestry policies.
