Sosnowiec Mourns MP Łukasz Litewka After Cycling Accident

The city of Sosnowiec is in mourning following the death of MP Łukasz Litewka, 36, who was fatally struck by a car while cycling on April 23rd.

A book of condolence has been placed in the Sosnowiec City Hall at Aleja Zwycięstwa 20, open to the public throughout the weekend, allowing residents to express their sympathies.

Moment of Silence and Flag Protocol

In tribute to the late MP, flags at the Sosnowiec City Hall will be flown at half-mast until the day of the funeral. All municipal events will begin with a minute of silence.

City officials have requested that all event organizers follow suit, honoring Litewka’s memory with a moment of silence.

Details of the Accident

The accident occurred in Dąbrowa Górniczka on Thursday, April 23rd, when a 57-year-old driver of a Mitsubishi Colt crossed into the opposite lane, colliding with MP Litewka, who was riding his bicycle.

Despite resuscitation efforts, Łukasz Litewka died at the scene. The driver of the Mitsubishi Colt has been detained, with initial reports suggesting he may have fallen asleep or become unwell at the wheel.

Litewka’s Charitable Work

Łukasz Litewka was well-known for his charitable and social activities, particularly through his #TeamLitewka foundation.

The foundation actively supported various causes, including medical treatment for children, animal welfare, and providing assistance to those in need within the local community, often through social media campaigns.

Promoting Animal Adoption

During the 2023 parliamentary election campaign, Litewka featured images of dogs awaiting adoption from a local shelter on his campaign posters, including their names and contact information.

After the campaign, these banners were repurposed as insulation material for the animal shelter’s kennels.
