The commander of the 2nd Lublin Territorial Defense Brigade has dismissed a 47-year-old soldier from service after he allegedly doused his son’s friend in gasoline and set him on fire on May 31.
Assault in Łęczna County
The incident occurred on a private property in Łęczna County while two men in their twenties were repairing a car. According to prosecutor Marcin Kozak of the Lublin District Prosecutor’s Office, the 47-year-old suspect also obstructed efforts to provide aid to the victim following the attack.
Victim in Critical Condition
The victim was transported to the hospital with extensive burns and is currently in life-threatening condition. The suspect was apprehended after a brief pursuit and was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest.
Legal Proceedings and Military Response
The case is being handled by the Military Division of the Lublin District Prosecutor’s Office, with charges expected to be filed on Tuesday. The Territorial Defense Forces confirmed the suspect was a member of the 2nd Lublin Brigade but emphasized the incident was unrelated to his military duties.
The Brigade commander issued an immediate discharge, stating that the force maintains zero tolerance for conduct that harms the reputation of the Polish Armed Forces or the uniform. No further details are being released due to the ongoing investigation.
