President Trump announces framework agreement on Greenland with NATO allies, promising no European tariffs if finalized.
Trump on the Greenland Agreement
Donald Trump spoke with NATO’s Secretary General in Davos following his speech. After the meeting ended, he informed via Truth Social what the meeting was about, describing it as “very fruitful”.
“We have worked out the framework for a future agreement on Greenland, and in fact the entire Arctic region. This solution – if finalized – will be very beneficial for the United States of America and all NATO countries” – Trump stated.
He also added that based on the agreement, he will not impose tariffs on European countries that were to take effect on February 1. Additional talks regarding the Golden Dome in the context of Greenland are ongoing, he said, with further information to be provided as talks progress.
Trump Wants to Take Over Greenland
The President of the United States spoke on Wednesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos. During his speech, he assured his country would not attack Greenland, but did not back down from the intention to take control of it.
He argued that the United States should get Greenland because Denmark is unable to defend the island. He also suggested that ceding Greenland would be a form of repayment for Europe, saying “We never got anything in return and probably won’t, unless I decide to use force.”
Trump said European leaders face a choice: “You can say: yes – and we will be very grateful to you, or you can say: no – and we will remember that.” The US President expects immediate negotiations from Europe on Greenland.
