Trump hails Polish president at Davos Peace Council launch, noting Poland needs parliamentary approval to join.
Trump Launches International Peace Council in Davos
During the World Economic Forum in Davos, Donald Trump announced a new international body, the Peace Council, tasked with resolving global conflicts. Initially presented as overseeing the Gaza situation, its inauguration included representatives from the US and 19 other nations. Key EU members, Russia, and China were notably absent.
Poland’s Interest Requires Parliamentary Consent
Returning from Davos, Trump stated many nations face legal hurdles, not political will, to join the council. He cited Poland, saying President Nawrocki expressed willingness but requires parliamentary approval due to constitutional procedures. Similar challenges may apply to Italy.
Trump Commends Nawrocki’s Work
Trump expressed strong admiration for Karol Nawrocki, calling him a “wonderful, fantastic man” who won important elections and does “great work.” However, he emphasized Poland’s legal obligation to secure consent before formal membership.
Nawrocki Clarifies Non-Signature
Attending the inauguration, Nawrocki confirmed he did not sign the documents, citing Poland’s constitutional, legislative, and legal framework. He remains in contact with Prime Minister Donald Tusk as the matter undergoes legal review.
