Tusk’s Birthday Video Sparks Government Reshuffle Speculation

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s 69th birthday video included a handwritten note hinting at a potential government reshuffle in April 2026, fueling political debate.

Tusk’s Birthday Message and the Mysterious Note

On Wednesday, April 22nd, Prime Minister Donald Tusk published a video marking his 69th birthday, featuring excerpts from his personal and professional life. He described a typical day including a ten-kilometer run, meetings with collaborators, and preparations for the European Council.

During a segment showing him reviewing documents, a folder labeled “Office of the President of the Council of Ministers” briefly appears with a handwritten addition: “Reconstruction April ’26.” This note quickly generated speculation about potential changes within the government.

Votes of No Confidence and Potential Targets

The context for the speculation is the upcoming parliamentary vote on a motion of no confidence against Climate and Environment Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska. The opposition PiS party has also filed a motion against Health Minister Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda.

Media reports suggest that Education Minister Barbara Nowacka and Culture and National Heritage Minister Marta Cienkowska could also be affected by a potential reshuffle.

Political Reactions to the Note

Michał Dworczyk, a Member of the European Parliament from PiS, commented on the video, stating that Tusk had “smuggled” a message to his coalition partners ahead of the vote on Hennig-Kloska. He accused Tusk of “intimidation” of coalition members.

Government Response and Previous Statements

Government spokesman Adam Szłapka stated that no government reshuffle is currently planned. He affirmed that the ruling coalition has sufficient support to defeat the motion of no confidence against Sobierańska-Grenda.

Szłapka also confirmed that Polska 2050, a coalition partner, will not vote against a government minister. Tusk himself previously stated he had no plans for a reshuffle, and the last one occurred in July 2025, reducing the number of ministers by five.

Request for Comment and Ongoing Uncertainty

A request for comment regarding the video and the “Reconstruction April ’26” note was sent to government spokesman Adam Szłapka, but no response was received as of publication.
