TV Republika Troubles: Must Pay Giant 17.85 Million Zloty Concession Fee

TV Republika owes 17.85 million zloty for its broadcasting concession, with over 900,000 zloty still unpaid despite partial payment.

Concession Fee Details

According to “Press,” Television Republika’s concession will cost 17.85 million zloty, spread over ten annual installments. The station must pay its second installment of 1.79 million zloty, plus a 129,000 zloty deferment fee, by September 1, 2025.

Payment Status

As of January 15, TV Republika has paid part of its concession installment but still owes over 900,000 zloty. A letter regarding the arrears has been sent to the broadcaster, and a decision is expected after analyzing the response. The broadcaster has requested to convert annual installments to monthly payments, though the proposed payment amount is below the required sum with interest.

Prof. Tadeusz Kowalski, a member of the National Council of Radio and Television, commented on the situation.

Public Appeal for Support

TV Republika has recently aired a new spot appealing to viewers for financial support. Editor-in-chief Tomasz Sakiewicz highlights the station’s achievements, including organizing a New Year’s Eve event in Chełm and building a new studio.

“This is all thanks to you, our viewers. Together we are creating a House of Free Speech. A house that is now in the crosshairs of the current authorities,” Sakiewicz stated. He added that “a conspiracy in the advertising market means that we cannot fully achieve our goals” and suggested viewers set up standing orders to support the station.
