The US Central Command conducted a second night of airstrikes against Iranian reconnaissance and air defense systems, while Tehran dismissed Donald Trump’s claims of peace talks as a political smokescreen.

US Military Operations and Iranian Retaliation

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed a series of strikes on Wednesday night targeting Iranian military surveillance, communication systems, and air defense sites. The military stated these operations were aimed at assets threatening US forces and commercial vessels in the region, characterizing the action as a response to ongoing Iranian aggression.

Tehran claimed its forces retaliated by launching drone attacks against the US 5th Fleet in Bahrain and declared a closure of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM rejected these reports, asserting that commercial transit continues and no US warships were struck in the strait.

Regional Impact and Kuwaiti Airspace

Kuwaiti civil aviation authorities announced a temporary closure of the country’s airspace on Thursday. The government stated the move was a direct reaction to Iranian attacks, which posed a potential risk to civil aviation in the region.

Trump’s Claims and Diplomatic Friction

Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that he spoke with Iranian officials who requested a halt to the attacks, claiming the bombardment would end if a deal were signed. Tehran has denied any such contact, with officials quoted by Reuters labeling Trump’s claims as a smokescreen to avoid full-scale war.

Portal Axios noted that while the US claims the strikes are intended to pressure Tehran into a deal, the ongoing actions increase the risk of military escalation.
