Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Saturday, Dec. 6 that he had a long, fruitful phone conversation with former Trump envoy Steve Wikoff and U.S. President’s son Jared Kushner.
Participants in the Call
President Zelensky spoke with former U.S. Donald Trump special envoy Steve Wikoff and President’s son Jared Kushner. The call also included Ukraine’s Chief of Staff General Andriy Hnat and National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov. Zelensky described the discussion as “very constructive” and thanked all participants.
Discussion Topics
Zelensky said the conversation covered many aspects aimed at ending the bloodshed and eliminating the threat of another full‑scale Russian invasion. He also discussed the risk of Russia failing to meet its promises, a recurring issue. The parties agreed to further talks with the U.S. and set a format for future discussions. Zelensky expects a detailed report from Umerov and Hnat, noting that not everything can be addressed over the phone and that close cooperation is essential.
Zelensky Declares Ukraine Determined
The president stated, “Ukraine is determined” to continue cooperation with the U.S. side to achieve peace. He thanked President Trump for his “intense negotiation approach.”
Cancelled Meeting with Putin
According to Reuters, Wikoff and Kushner met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Axios reported that the Trump envoy was scheduled to meet Zelensky afterward. Journalists at Kyiv Post later confirmed that the meeting was canceled.
