ZUS Energy Allowance: Who Is Eligible for the Monthly 350 PLN Benefit?

Many Poles are unaware of a monthly energy subsidy provided by the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) to eligible pensioners and veterans, which can help offset rising electricity and gas costs.

Rising Energy Costs and Household Budgets

Energy prices in Poland have reached astronomical levels, placing a significant strain on family finances. Households are also facing the reintroduction of the capacity fee, which adds 11.44 PLN net per month for those consuming between 1,200 and 2,800 kWh annually.

Many citizens remain unaware that they can receive financial support through the ZUS energy lump sum. This benefit is not automatic; it requires meeting specific criteria and submitting a formal application.

Eligibility Criteria for the Energy Lump Sum

The energy lump sum is primarily intended for pensioners and retirees who meet specific requirements. Eligible individuals include veterans, those who fought for Poland’s independence, and victims of political repression.

The list of beneficiaries also covers soldiers in substitute military service who were forced to work in coal mines, quarries, uranium ore extraction facilities, or construction battalions, as well as their surviving spouses.

Payment Amounts and Application Process

The benefit is adjusted annually. As of March 2026, the rate is 336.16 PLN per month, totaling over 4,000 PLN annually. Rights to this benefit can be inherited by family members in the event of the beneficiary’s death.

To apply, individuals must submit the ZUS-ERK form either in person at a ZUS branch or online via the official ZUS website. Applicants must provide supporting documentation, such as certificates of veteran or repressed status issued by the Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression or relevant military records.
