51-Year-Old Threatens Vice Premier, Police Find Firearms and Molotov Cocktails in His Car

A 51-year-old Polish man was arrested for threatening Vice Premier Krzysztof Gawkowski after police discovered weapons and incendiary devices in his possession.

Threat Against Vice Premier

In mid-January, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gawkowski posted on X stating that “Poland has an obligation to recognize same-sex marriages legally performed in other EU countries.” An anonymous comment appeared under the politician’s post, threatening the vice premier.

Molotov Cocktails and Weapons

The man was identified as 51-year-old Krzysztof K. from Wrocław. Police found a Beretta pistol, a gas pistol, and eight glass bottles containing what are known as Molotov cocktails at his residence and in his car. In addition to making criminal threats and possessing weapons without a license, the man was also accused of producing black powder. “Krzysztof K. did not admit to the alleged acts. He explained that his intention was not to intimidate the victim, but his comment was the result of his growing frustration caused by the ‘imposition of LGBT ideology on society,'” stated the District Prosecutor’s Office in Wrocław. The man also claimed that he produced black powder “for fun” and transported the Molotov cocktails in his car because “he had nowhere to store them.”

Proceedings in Initial Phase

The man was remanded in custody for three months by court decision. He faces from 6 months to 8 years in prison. “The proceedings are in the initial phase,” Prosecutor Karolina Stocka-Mycek from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Wrocław told Gazeta.pl. Investigators will determine, among other things, why the man had weapons and Molotov cocktails, and whether he directed threats at other people as well. “During the search, various media were secured, including a phone,” we hear. The prosecutor’s office does not, for now, see grounds for referring the man for psychiatric observation.
