Collegium Humanum scandal: Indictment filed against Wrocław mayor Jacek Sutryk

An indictment has been filed against Wrocław mayor Jacek Sutryk concerning alleged fraud and corruption linked to the former Collegium Humanum management school, according to prosecutors.

Indictment concerning Collegium Humanum

On 26 November, prosecutors from the Silesian Local Office of the National Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice prepared an indictment sent to the District Court in Katowice. The indictment, spanning 623 pages, accuses 29 individuals—including rectors, professors, lecturers, politicians, and State Fire Service officials—of 67 crimes, mainly corruption, false certification, fraud, and money laundering.

Witness statements and other evidence have been collected, and 78 suspects have faced 389 charges, with 13 temporarily arrested. Seized assets total 176 million PLN.

Charges against Wrocław Mayor

Prosecutors say that the evidence supports filing an indictment against mayor Jacek Sutryk, who faces four charges: three fraud and one corruption offence.

The case alleges that in early 2020 Sutryk sought an MBA diploma and used an electronic application at Collegium Humanum, signed a dated contract, paid 9,500 PLN, and in June 2020 received an MBA completion certificate without having actually studied. In exchange, a person named Paweł Cz. was to obtain a position on the board of Wrocław Technological Park.

Alleged irregularities at Collegium Humanum

Investigations reveal that the institution may have issued falsified completion certificates. Searches uncovered a widespread scheme involving improper awarding of MBA postgraduate, bachelor’s, and master’s diplomas.

Since August 2018, Paweł Cz. and others connected to the university have allegedly received personal and financial benefits in exchange for producing false documentation. The scheme reportedly involved the university rector, staff, and other public officials from state and local institutions.
