Volodymyr Zelensky Receives Letter from Karol Nawrocki

Nawrocki’s Letter on ‘Heroic Contribution’ to European Values

President Karol Nawrocki extended his congratulations and best wishes on the 34th anniversary of Ukraine’s declaration of independence. He highlighted August 24 as a symbol not only of Ukraine’s 1991 freedom and sovereignty but also of the Ukrainian nation’s unwavering courage and determination to protect its independence from Russia’s brutal aggression. “Your struggle is not only for your borders and right to self-determination, but also a heroic contribution to defending values that form the bedrock of European civilization: freedom, democracy, and the dignity of every individual,” the letter states, published by Zelensky on social media.

Nawrocki: Poland ‘Stands by’ Ukraine

“As a close neighbor and ally of Ukraine, Poland stands by your nation during these difficult times. We support your resilience, perseverance, and courage, which embody spiritual strength and profound patriotism,” Nawrocki wrote. He also emphasized the importance of a free and sovereign Ukraine to Poland, noting its role as “not only a neighbor and ally but also a cornerstone of peace and stability in our part of Europe.” Zelensky added that Ukraine’s Independence Day serves as a “crucial reminder for Poland and all countries in our region: independence is not a given, it is a priceless value that must be nurtured and protected, especially against those who seek to destroy it.”

Poland’s ‘Highest Solidarity’

Zelensky published his response alongside Nawrocki’s letter, expressing “sincere gratitude” for the congratulations. He recalled Poland’s “highest solidarity during Ukraine’s most challenging times in the full-scale war against Russia.” Zelensky noted that Poland and Ukraine have shared a “common aspiration for freedom, independence, and a dignified European future” for their peoples. Ukrainians are celebrating Independence Day for the fourth time amid the backdrop of Russia’s all-out aggression.
