The U.S. has barred the entire Palestinian delegation from entering the UN General Assembly for the first time, citing sanctions against the Palestine Liberation Organization and Palestinian Authority for violating American laws concerning their activity.
U.S. State Department Bans Delegate Visas
The decision, announced by State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott, followed the imposition of sanctions on the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority for violating U.S. laws regulating their activities.
Pigott emphasized that Palestinians must unequivocally renounce terrorism, cease international tribunal actions, and abandon one-sided steps toward state recognition before being considered partners for peace talks.
Sanctions on UN Participation
Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau stated that the sanctions were a response to alleged glorification of violence, promotion of anti-Semitism, and financial support for terrorists. Palestinian officials and diplomats planned to participate in the UN General Assembly in New York.
Impact on Palestinian President
The visa denial by the U.S. affects not only the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmud Abbas, but also those who organized medical treatment for children from Gaza and other regions.
