AfD leader Tino Chrupalla demanded the withdrawal of US troops from Germany and the return of Ukrainian refugees during a party congress in Loebau on Sunday.

AfD Demands US Troop Withdrawal and Criticizes Ukraine Support

Tino Chrupalla, speaking at a Saxony AfD congress in Loebau, referenced the party’s platform calling for the removal of all allied troops and nuclear weapons from Germany. He stated the process should begin with withdrawing US forces.

The AfD is distancing itself from the United States, and Chrupalla praised the Spanish government for opposing the use of its military bases in a potential war with Iran.

AfD’s Ambitions for Power in Germany

Chrupalla urged the AfD to move beyond being a protest party and actively seek power in eastern German states and nationally. He emphasized the need to transition from opposition to a governing party, stating voters expect results.

The party aims to win the premiership in Saxony by 2029 and the chancellorship at the federal level, with a broader goal of success in European elections, declaring 2029 as the “year of a new Germany.”

Chrupalla’s Position on the War in Ukraine

Regarding the war in Ukraine, Chrupalla stated his party would “bring about peace,” and that Ukrainian refugees in Germany would then need to return home. He criticized the current level of benefits received by Ukrainian refugees, alleging they arrive at offices in luxury vehicles.

AfD’s Rising Popularity

Recent polls indicate the Alternative for Germany is closing the gap with the ruling CDU/CSU, currently enjoying 23-26% support compared to the CDU/CSU’s 26-28%.
