Borusewicz Urges Removal of Barriers Between Communities

During the 45th anniversary of the Solidarity movement, Polish Senator Bogdan Borusewicz urged Culture Minister Karol Nawrocki to tear down the barriers separating the European Solidarity Center.

Appeal for Unity and Solidarity

Borusewicz, a co-organizer of the 1980 Gdańsk shipyard strike, called for unity in the face of ongoing global challenges, particularly the war in Ukraine. “We need to remember the solidarity we experienced in the 1980s… My appeal is to Mr. President Nawrocki: remove these barriers. They are unnecessary. We will find common ground. There’s no reason for them to divide one group from another.”

Remembering the Past, Shaping the Future

The senator emphasized the importance of sharing these historical experiences with younger generations. “It’s our responsibility to show them the example of August 1980, rather than teach them through provocation or violence. We must cherish our freedom and democracy, which we fought so hard to achieve.”

War in Ukraine

Borusewicz also addressed the ongoing war in Ukraine and the hospitality shown to Ukrainian refugees in Poland. “When we opened our homes and apartments to those fleeing the horrors of war, that was the beauty of true, selfless solidarity. We must not close doors to these unfortunate people who are running from bombardment and artillery.”
