Trump’s Support for Orbán Viewed Negatively by Polish Voters: Poll

A recent Polish poll indicates that nearly 45% of respondents believe Donald Trump’s support harmed Viktor Orbán’s party’s electoral results in Hungary.

Trump Backs Orbán

SW Research conducted a poll for Onet on April 15th, surveying 812 individuals regarding whether Donald Trump’s support negatively impacted the electoral performance of Viktor Orbán’s party in Hungary. The results showed 44.7% of respondents answered “yes,” while 20.4% answered “no.” A further 34.8% indicated they “couldn’t say.”

Trump’s Praise for the Hungarian Prime Minister

Shortly before the Hungarian parliamentary elections, on April 10th, Trump posted a lengthy message on Truth Social praising the Hungarian Prime Minister. He described Orbán as a “strong and powerful leader” with “proven success in achieving phenomenal results.”

Trump also expressed admiration for Orbán’s “tireless fight for his country and citizens,” stating that Orbán is working to protect Hungary, develop the economy, create jobs, support trade, curb illegal immigration, and maintain law and order.

Stakes in US-Hungary Relations

Trump linked continued US-Hungary relations to the election outcome, expressing anticipation for further cooperation with Orbán, which he deemed very positive, citing “spectacular achievements.” He attributed these achievements largely to Orbán’s leadership. Trump stated he “proudly endorsed Viktor in the 2022 election and will do so again with great honor.”

US Support Beyond Trump

Vice President J.D. Vance also demonstrated support for Orbán, meeting with him on April 7th and appearing alongside him at a press conference. Vance stated his intention to “help” Orbán during the election campaign, believing that the US and Hungary “can accomplish incredible things” together.

Shared Goals: Defending Western Civilization

A key area of collaboration was identified as “defending Western civilization.” Vance noted that Washington and Budapest are exchanging experiences in four areas: migration, gender ideology, family policy, and global security. He emphasized Orbán’s rarity in defending Western values, stating, “Few have been willing to stand up for the values of Western civilization. Viktor Orbán is a rare exception. That’s why I’m here.”
