Polish Law Faculties Form National Conference

Sixteen public university law faculties in Poland established a conference in Warsaw on April 20, 2026, to collaborate on legal education and research.

National Forum for Academic Collaboration

A nationwide forum for cooperation among 16 law faculties has been established in Warsaw. The Conference aims to jointly work towards improving the quality of legal education, developing legal science, and representing the academic community in dialogue with public institutions.

Conference Founding

On April 20, 2026, at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw, deans from 16 law faculties founded the Conference of Deans of Public University Law Faculties. The initiative was started by deans from the law faculties of the University of Gdańsk, the University of Szczecin, the University of Silesia in Katowice, and the University of Wrocław, with the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of Law and Administration hosting the meeting.

Objectives of the Conference

The newly established Conference will serve as a national forum for cooperation between public university law faculties. Its task will be to develop opinions and positions on matters important to the academic community educating law students, as well as strengthening cooperation between faculties in matters concerning didactics, study organization, and scientific research development.

Collaboration with Legal Institutions

As stated in the founding Act, the Conference will cooperate with bar associations, the National School of Judiciary and Public Prosecution, and other entities employing law graduates. The founders also intend to create an entity that could be a partner for the Minister of Science and Higher Education and the Minister of Justice for joint actions aimed at improving the quality of legal education at public universities and increasing the effects of research activities in the field of law.

Role in State and Legal Education

The founding Act emphasized the special role of law faculties in shaping future generations of law graduates who perform tasks related to the administration of justice, the protection of human rights and freedoms, and the functioning of public institutions.

Importance for Rule of Law and Civil Society

The signatories of the document also pointed to the importance of law faculties for the protection of the rule of law, democracy, and the proper functioning of civil society. They also indicated the need to ensure adequate funding for these institutions, enabling them to carry out their research and teaching tasks.

The founding members of the Conference are the law faculties of: Jan Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, University of Białystok, University of Gdańsk, Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, University of Łódź, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, University of Opole, University of Rzeszów, University of Szczecin, University of Silesia in Katowice, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, University of Warsaw, University of Wrocław, and University of Zielona Góra.
